Getting started with Lucen Flowchart

Overview

Lucen Flowchart lets you design, edit, and style flowcharts as native, fully editable shapes, right on the slide you present from. Prompt Lucen AI, start from a template, or build by hand, then refine everything without leaving PowerPoint.

Compatibility: Lucen Flowchart runs on PowerPoint for Windows, version 2016 or later (including Microsoft 365 desktop). It is not available for PowerPoint on Mac, the web, or mobile.

For the best experience, uninstall your existing Flowchart beta before installing this version.

A) Before you begin

Step 1: Install Lucen Flowchart

Download and run the installer, then reopen PowerPoint.

Step 2: Sign in

Sign in with your Lucen account, or create one if this is your first time.

Step 3: Open PowerPoint

On first open, Flowchart greets you with a short demo deck you can explore or build from.

B) Open Flowchart: four ways in

You can reach Flowchart however feels natural, they all open the same experience:

  • From the Ribbon, select Lucen Flowchart.

  • Right-click the canvas and choose Lucen Flowchart.

  • Click the floating Lucen icon on the slide

  • Hover an existing shape to extend the diagram from it.

C) Choose how to start

Describe it with Lucen AI

Open the AI pane, describe the process in plain language, and select Generate. Lucen AI creates the flowchart as native shapes on your slide.

Start from a template

Pick a layout from the template gallery to drop a ready-made structure onto the slide.

Build from scratch

Add your first shape and go, connectors attach automatically as you extend. Click Add shape to beginning designing your diagram.

As you add shapes, connectors appear and stay attached.

From here:

  • Move shapes and the connectors reflow with them.

  • Redraw or add connectors by dragging between shapes.

  • Restyle fills and colors to match your slide.

Step back, does it look right? If so, you're done. If it's gotten messy, run Auto Layout.

C) Run auto layout anytime

If your diagram gets cluttered, use Auto layout to clean it up instantly. As you continue to design and build, Auto layout is available to run again at anytime.

D) Organize with swimlanes and columns

For larger processes, add swimlanes or columns to group steps by owner or stage. Click Add layout to place your swimlanes. Auto layout respects your lanes when it rearranges.

E) Why it works in PowerPoint

Everything Flowchart creates is a native PowerPoint shape, so anyone can open and edit the deck without Lucen installed. By default, colors and fonts follow the presentation's theme, so your flowchart restyles itself when the theme changes. Pick a specific color and that choice sticks.
