This article covers the Lucen Timeline add-in for PowerPoint on Windows. Using the browser-based app instead? See Lucen Timeline Online help.
Overview
Lucen Timeline keeps itself up to date. It downloads updates automatically in the background, then prompts you to install them with a single click. You never need to hunt for a download or reinstall by hand. You can still download the latest build any time from the Lucen Timeline Updates page.
How do I know if I need an update?
You do not need to go looking for updates. Lucen Timeline checks in the background (on launch and periodically) and downloads any new version automatically. It does not install on its own: when a download is ready, it prompts you to install with one click (no admin rights required for per-user installs).
When an update has downloaded and is ready, a green Update ready notification appears in the style pane showing the new version, with Install now and Later buttons. You can keep working and choose Later if you are busy.
Some organizations require administrator permission to install software. On machine-wide (IT-managed) installs, non-admin users cannot self-update and are prompted to contact their IT administrator. IT can also disable automatic updates for the whole fleet (see the enterprise deployment guide).
Install the update
Select Install now to apply the update. The Lucen Timeline installer opens.
In the installer, review the license terms and select Install. Lucen Timeline installs, you will see a "Please wait" progress screen, then it finishes. Reopen PowerPoint if you are prompted.
