Smartsheet import not working (Timeline Add-in)

Overview

Note: Smartsheet is updating its API, and older versions of the Lucen Timeline Add-in will no longer support the integration after February 6, 2026. To continue using Smartsheet with Timeline, please update to the latest version of the Add-in before this date.

Updating to the latest version gives you access to our new email sign-in and improved license management, replacing product key activation.

There are three reasons why you may not be able to successfully import from Smartsheet into the Timeline add-in:

Solutions

Try the following solutions (A, B, C) in this order:

A. Make sure you have Timeline version 3.62.13 or newer

  1. To check what version you have installed, open PowerPoint and, on the Timeline ribbon, click Help > About.

  2. If you don't have version 3.62.13 or greater, go to https://www.officetimeline.com/updates and install the latest build.

  3. Try importing from Smartsheet.

B. Configure Timeline to use your Web Proxy

  1. In PowerPoint, click Settings on the Timeline ribbon.

  2. Click on Proxy and then choose Custom under Web Proxy Settings to specify your web proxy settings. You will need to contact your IT Helpdesk to obtain this information.

  3. Make sure you test the settings once you've entered the URL, Port, and Username / Password (if that's required to access the web proxy).

  4. Click OK and try importing from Smartsheet again.

C. Run PowerPoint with additional permissions

Often times, corporate security policies prevent applications such as PowerPoint from accessing the network. Running PowerPoint with elevated privileges will allow PowerPoint and Timeline to connect to Smartsheet. Here's how to run PowerPoint with elevated privileges:

  1. Follow the steps in this article: https://support.officetimeline.com/run-powerpoint-with-elevated-privileges.

  2. Open PowerPoint as you normally do and test Smartsheet.
